  • FAIRY GARDEN TOURS
    Where/When:
    Begins at 38 Whitwell Avenue on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Get a peek behind the garden gates of five Newport in Bloom members that will feature the fairy houses created by St. Michael’s Country Day School students.
    Pricing:  $25; tickets available for purchase at Newport County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau
  • TOUR DE NEWPORT BIKE-A-THON
    Where/When:
    Rogers High School on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 a.m.
    Why Go:
     In this 3rd annual event, choose from a 10, 25 or 45 mile course which will wind through all three communities on Aquidneck Avenue to raise awareness for mental health and benefit Newport County Mental Health.
    Pricing: Pre-registration is $25/individual or $75/team; Same day registration is $30/individual or $100/team.
  • NEWPORT INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW
    Where/When:
    Newport Yachting Center Thurs. to Sat., Sept. 15-17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    Why Go:  Check out hundreds of power and sail boats as well as the latest in technology and safety equipment for your on the water adventures in this in-water boat show that spans the docks from the Newport Yachting Center to the Inn at Newport Harbor.
    Pricing:  $18/adult; $27/adult on VIP Thursday; Newport County Residents and Military get half off on Friday with valid ID; Children under 12 are free.
  • BOOK SIGNING ON SCALLOPS: A NEW ENGLAND COASTAL COOKBOOK
    Where/When:
    Barnes & Noble on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Mother/Daughter Authors Elaine Tammi and Karin Tammi will be on hand to sign copies of their book dedicated to the popular native shellfish. The book includes a combination of recipes, interviews of fishermen and world-renowned chefs, and much more.
    Pricing:  Book retails for $39.95
  • MUSHROOM WALK
    Where/When:
    Norman Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
    Why Go: The RI Audubon Society’s Joe Metzen, a.k.a. Master of Mushrooms, will be leading this course which will begin in the classroom and then head out onto the trails to explore what mushrooms grow in our own backyards.
