The announces that David Cassidy will headline at the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series stage on Saturday, July 21stTickets to the concert are $24 for standard seating and $44 for preferred seating and will be available for purchase at 10:00 a.m. this Wednesday, May 2nd online at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com or by calling the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600.  This headliner announcement is the seventh in what will be an expanded 2012 Sunset Music Series through the summer with more concerts planned than ever before.

“This show will be a real 70’s flashback!  David Cassidy has had quite an amazing career with starring roles on Broadway and the most successful production in Vegas, but he was bigger than Elvis and the Beatles when he was singing all those hit songs with The Partridge Family and as a solo artist in the 1970s,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center.  “We’re not sure if The Partridge Family tour bus will roll onto America’s Cup Avenue but the happy vibe will definitely be here!”

In 1970, when ABC cast David Cassidy along with his stepmother, Shirley Jones, in the series, The Partridge Family, one of the most spectacular careers in the entertainment industry was launched.  Before the end of that year, Cassidy had the #1 selling single and record of the year, garnered multiple Grammy nominations and won a Golden Apple Award.  Cassidy was responsible for seven chart-topping Partridge Family songs, including “Doesn’t Somebody Want To Be Wanted”, “I Woke Up In Love This Morning”, “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” and, of course, “I Think I Love You”, the best selling single in 1971.

As a solo artist during that time, Cassidy continued to pile up the hit singles, including “Cherish”, “Could It Be Forever”, “How Can I Be Sure” and “Rock Me Baby”, as well as the 1990 hit, “Lyin’ To Myself”.  His popular 2004 album, “Then and Now”, eventually reached Platinum status.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Cassidy has also starred on Broadway in the original production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, earned an “Best Dramatic Actor” Emmy nomination for an episode of the highly rated television series, Police Story, and was the creative director and named “Best All Around Performer” for the Las Vegas-MGM Grand extravaganza EFX, as well as The Rat Pack is Back
