Would the people of Newport like to see the toll took off the Newport Bridge . That was the plan when it was built. It was to be turned over to the State when it was paid for. The Gas tax and registration fees were suppose to cover cost of maintenance and repairs for all the roads and bridges in the State. The Toll inhibits local business . It picks the pocket of locals every day . Now they expect the tolls to pay for transportation improvements in Newport and Bristol county . This will raise the cost per trip .Locals could be paying twice what they pay now. The RITBA will be floating bonds to do projects that should be paid for by the DOT via the Legislature. You will still pay the Gas Tax and all the Fees, but will not see that money. Your Rep's and Sen. gave that money away to the black hole up north . First they gave away State aid (Schools and City revenue share) . Now they gave away our share of the Gas tax and Registration fees.

Gee Joe now that they want a toll on your side you become concerned.......just set the Newport County toll to $.50 and it will be fair....the rest of RI folks keep the $.87 and the comuter price as is

I cross the Newport Bridge at lest ten times a month. I have to pay the full boat because it is a commercial vehicle. The customer has to pay that on top of the regular fee . I have been calling for the MT. Hope bridge to be turned over to the State for decades. Nothing new for me.
