Troop 3 Celebrates New Eagle Scout

Troop 3 Newport is proud to announce that George Tollefson III has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

George’s leadership project was an Earth Day Clean-Up of the Newport Railroad Corridor from the depot on America’s Cup Avenue to behind Mama Leone’s Restaurant. He coordinated his volunteers to pick up trash along the railroad using a flatbed car to transport the trash to the end point for the City to collect. He also created a presentation of an overview of recycling and the Newport Railroad Corridor to Troop 3.

George graduated from Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, MA and is currently attending the University of Rhode Island. He is studying biomedical engineering and hopes to specialize in creating new medical equipment necessary for testing, analysis and injury treatment. He is also studying Chinese in order to fulfill his aspiration to travel and experience new cultures.

George lives in Newport with his parents and younger sister Emily. He graduated from All Saint’s Academy and is a member of St Joseph’s Parish.

He is a talented artist, plays guitar and drums and was voted “Most Artistic Male” in the 2012 Bishop Stang Senior Superlatives election.

Troop 3 is sponsored by Newport Elks Lodge and is a member of BSA Narragansett Council. Boys in Troop 3 range in age from 11-17 years old. They attend Thompson Middle School, Rogers & Bishop Hendricken High Schools.

Boy Scouts of America has three objectives: character development, citizenship training and personal fitness. For more information about BSA Troop 3 Newport, please call Glenn Gardiner at 401 846-9583 x 2002 or visit our website: troop3newport.org
