Mary A. Gleason, of Newport, formerly of East Greenwich and Narragansett, died on Dec. 7, 2010. She was 80.

She was the wife of Thomas H. Gleason, whom she had been married to for 56 years. Born in Providence, Mary was the daughter of the late Cornelius J Crowley and Mary A. (Reynolds) Crowley.

Mary was a former communicate of Our Lady of Mercy Church, East Greenwich, and a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Bay View. She had worked at the Old Stone Bank.

Besides her husband, she leaves her 10 children, Katie Gleason and her husband, Chris, of Tucson, AZ, Nancy Gleason Vaillancourt and her husband, Peter, of Portsmouth, Thomas H. Gleason, III and his wife, Adelaide, of New York City, Sheila E. Gleason and her husband, Jay Banerjee, of Florida and Newport, James M. Gleason of Roxbury CT, Jack J. Gleason and his wife, Caroline, of Miami, Joseph P.Gleason and his wife, Michelle, of East Greenwich, Robert F. Gleason and his wife, Sandi, of Bethlehem, CT, Connie Viera and her husband, Gary, of North Kingstown, and Margaret A. Moses and her husband, Daniel, of Sydney, Australia. Mary also leaves 16 grandchildren: Teddy and Cassie Tsighis, Corneila and Gabriela Vaillancourt, Thomas, Gus and Luke Gleason, Liam, Aiden, Maeve and Tess Gleason, Erin and Kate Viera, Oscar, George and Luca Moses; and two step grandchildren, Jonas and Miriam Banerjeee. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and four sister in-laws, Dorothy Maynard of Foster, Barbara Sweet of Johnston, Joan Crowley of Providence and Peg Gleason of Pittsfield, MA.

She was the grandmother of the late Fredric Moses and the sister of the late Neil Crowley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Mann Avenue and Broadway, Newport. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, RI.
