Local High School Seniors Receive Cox Communications Scholarships
West Warwick, RI – During a ceremony at the Rhode Island State House, Cox Communications awarded $16,000 in scholarships to eight high school seniors.
The students, from several high schools throughout the state, were recognized by Attorney General Peter Kilmartin for their commitment to their education and the community.
The 2012 Cox Communications scholarship recipients from Rhode Island are: Robinson Adames, Classical High School; Tyler Conlan, Middletown High School; Ariana Joharjian, Cranston High School West; Julie O'Brien, The Prout School; Santana Roberts, Classical High School; Timothy Smith, Ponaganset High School; Elizabeth Rose Teitz, Barrington High School and Mary Murphy Walsh, Rogers High School.
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on their outstanding academic achievement; community service; and interest in pursuing a career in the communications, telecommunications, technology or engineering fields. More than 60 scholarship applications were reviewed by a committee comprised of community and business leaders.
“Cox Communications is committed to the communities we serve, particularly in supporting the education of our youth,” said John Wolfe, vice president of government and public affairs, Cox Communications New England. “Through the Cox Scholarship program we hope to play a role in helping these outstanding young people achieve their academic and career goals.”
Since 1994, Cox has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to high school seniors throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut. This year, Cox will award 16 scholarships, totaling $32,000.
