CCACG has recently been successful at leading the fight against the referendum permitting table games at Newport Grand. The organization is seeking to build its base of volunteers to be prepared for the next attempt to expand casino operations into Newport. This meeting is free and open to the public. All are invited.

Is there a plan to revisit this issue on the part of NP Grand?

Not a chance. I'll join the Citizens FOR table games. What's CCACG plan to help Newport when Newport Grand closes and their revenue to the city is gone? CCACG going to help all the laid off workers find new jobs? They helped the "no" vote with scare tactics towards the elderly and the weak minded citizens, offering the elderly rides to vote "no" because if they vote yes they would be robbed, raped, and murdered. Great crusade. This organization should be ashamed of themselves. The very influential people that did this know who they are and to take advantage of the elderly like that was disgusting. The elderly, at that stage of their life, look for guidance and will do what ever that individual tells them to do and to use the scare tactics like that is irresponsable and he or she should be ashamed of what they did.

Just as an FYI. There is more crime in downtown Newport in one month than there has been at Newpot Grand in 36 years. I know because I have worked there for 36 years. As for the scare tactics that were used, I guess I'm a Union Thug. One wonders that with all this "inside info" that was supposed to be known, why didn't someone bring it up at all the public forums that were held. Over 2000 parking spots now. Why would they move to downtown Newport?

I'm with NG on this one. I know Diane Hurley and she's a stand up member of the community. Those are good jobs that pay a livable wage in Newport along with real benefits. Also, not only does NG give back through charitable work, they also provide the city with a serious revenue stream. Elizabeth Meyer and others of her ilk make the argument that casino jobs only pay 14.00/hr on average and are therefore exploitative. OK, could Meyer or anyone else show me a similar job on the waterfront that pays that money? I'm a skilled worker in the marine trades and can tell you that Meyer and the other revered "job creators" on the waterfront bristle at paying more than 12.00/hr. That's a fact. Nice try, but a red herring if ever there was one. These jokers are simply terrified that they might have to compete with someone who pays a living wage. Its that simple.
